About Us

Our ancestors immigrated to Canada in the early 1900’s. The Philipps brothers from South Wales and the Lewis family from England. The Lewis family homesteaded in the Bottrel area in 1904. The Philipps brothers homesteaded in the Dogpound, Bottrel area in 1910. Frank Philipps married Florence Lewis and my grandfather Owen was born in the Cochrane hospital (now the Cochrane museum). Mick and Morgan Lewis were involved with development of the Dogpound Rodeo.

After his wife passed, John Fenton and 8 of his children moved from Ontario to Alberta in 1929. John purchased a farm in the Cochrane Lake district in 1931. A park in Gleneagles East is named after the Fenton families. Eva, youngest daughter of John, married Owen Philipps. Their daughter Vicki married Cameron (Turk) Deeton raising 2 children, myself and my sister.

I graduated from Cochrane High School and worked at the Jumping Pound gas plant before taking over the ranching operation in 1991. With the assistance of my two daughters and their husbands, we operated a successful working cattle ranch. Most of our work is done in the time honoured tradition of horseback with low impact handling and low stress to our cattle.
